Remembering the assurance given by his friend Drupada, Acharya Drona decided to meet his son, the Panchala king Drupada. He came to Ahichchhatra and met Drupada in the court and introduced himself as his child friend. Drupada got angry after hearing these friendly words of Drona. Drupad, being possessed by wealth and opulence, said that Drona, your intellect is immoral and immature, so you are saying that I am your friend. How can great kings be friends with a humble person like you? Friendship is based on strength. You and I were the same in the ashram but not today. We were once friends, get this feeling out of your mind. King Drupada insulted his former friend by saying many other bitter things like this.
Drona also got angry after hearing such unexpected harsh words of King Drupada, yet he showed wisdom and thinking about taking revenge for this insult of today, he left the assembly of Panchal King Drupada and went back to Hastinapur. Come. It was here that his wife's brother Kripacharya was teaching the Kaurava-Pandava princes to study arms.
For a long time, Drona lived with them unknowingly. Then one day as a sequence of events appeared in front of the princes. When Pitamah Bhishma got information about Drona's residence in Hastinapur, he was very happy and he met Drona and appointed him as Acharya for imparting weaponry to all the princes.
In due course of time, when the prince became proficient in weaponry under Acharya Drona's mastership and requested his guru Drona to take guru-dakshina, he asked all the princes to attack the Panchal king Drupad and bring him captive! After getting the permission, all the princes sat on their chariots with weapons and reached Ahichchhatra, the capital of Drupada and they attacked the Panchala kingdom. A fierce battle ensued from both the sides, in the end the Panchal king Drupad was taken prisoner by Arjuna and brought him to stand in front of his guru Acharya Drona.
Then Drona said to Drupada that I still pray for friendship from you. You said about having friendship on equal basis. That's why I have tried to fight with you to get the kingdom. Even after you are defeated in this war, I give you half the kingdom. From today this Panchal state will be divided into two parts, one North Panchal and the other South Panchal.
